      Polytech'Nantes

A member of the Polytech Group, (http://www.polytech-reseau.org), the first network of engineering schools in France, Polytech'Nantes was the first polytechnic engineering university in France. The school was created in January 2000 through the merging of three existing engineering schools located in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire: ESA-IGELEC, IRESTE, and ISITEM.

As the engineering school of the University of Nantes, the school benefits from the scientific and pedagogic environment of a university. In keeping with its mission to shaping well-rounded engineers, the school is privileged to maintain close ties to a number of businesses and individuals in the economic world at both the national and international level.

A member of the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles, Polytech'Nantes, the Graduate School of the University of Nantes, is accredited by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI), the French association which awards engineering degrees.

      The school in numbers…

Two campuses of over 40 000 m2 split between Nantes (site of La Chantrerie) and Saint-Nazaire (the Gavy site), Polytech'Nantes has approximately:

      • 850 engineering students and 250 students preparing their pre-doctoral and doctoral theses
      • 115 professors and assistant professors
      • 50 members of administrative and technical staff

    • University of Lyon “ Lumière Lyon 2” (ULY2, France)

      http://www.univ-lyon2.fr/

University of Lyon Lumière Lyon 2

The Department of Computer Science and Statistics within the Faculty of Economics in the University of Lyon 2 provides a course in Computer Science which includes a full Bachelor, Master and PhD in Computer Science. Master degrees in Computer Science, which existed since 1990, are specialized in the areas of databases, statistics and data analysis, security of information systems and knowledge engineering.

    • University of Pierre&Marie Curie, Paris (UP6, France)

      http://www.upmc.fr

University of Pierre & Marie Curie

University Pierre & Marie Curie (UPMC) hosts some 31 000 students. Every year, 6000 publications and 700 theses are produced by 162 laboratories partnered with the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique; French national Centre for Scientific Research) , INSERM (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale; French national institute for health and medical research), INRA (Institut national de la recherche agronomique; French national institute for agricultural research), IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement; French institute of research for development) and IFREMER (Institut francais de recherche pour l'exploitation de la mer; French research institute for exploitation of the sea)

University Pierre & Marie Curie stands for French excellence in science and medicine. It is the 6th European university in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and 39th in the world.

It participates in the development of high-level research, as proven by its many international prizes and medals and its collaborations with more than some hundred international universities. The university has seven UFRs (Unité de Formation & de Recherche; teaching and research departments) in chemistry, engineering, mathematics, medicine, physics and life, Earth, environmental and biodiversity sciences. It also encompasses the Ecole polytechnique universitaire, the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, the Institut Henri Poincaré and three marine stations, in Roscoff, Banyuls and Villefranche-sur-Mer.

  • Italy

    • University of Piemonte Orientale « Amedeo Avogadro » (UPO, Italy)

      http://www.mfn.unipmn.it

University of Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro

The University of Eastern Piedmont "Amedeo Avogadro", was founded in 1998 and is distributed over three cities: Alessandria, Vercelli and Novara. The University has 7 faculties, 12 departments, about 11.000 students, 400 teachers and 350 administrative and technical staff members.

The scientific entity of the UPO that will participate to the project is the Department of Computer Science. In this Department there are consolidated competencies in all aspects of Data Mining and Knowledge Management. In particular, the Department hosts the most relevant Italian group in Machine Learning and Data Mining researches. These last includes the design and development of relational learning programs, of systems for modelling long symbolic sequences, of methods for feature extraction, selection and construction, as well as theoretical and experimental studies on knowledge representation (specifically, abstraction), ensemble learning and computational complexity. Other expertises available concerns Datawarehousing, Advanced Data Bases, Security, Logics, Artificial Intelligence (knowledge representation and reasoning).

Beside the methodological competencies, the researchers at the UPO have gained expertise in several applications, including Medical Information Processing, Vision-Based Space Exploration technologies, Web services, Data Mining in Grid Computing, Profiling from sequences, Visual Pattern Recognition, Motion Detection, Domotics. All these applications have been performed in research contracts with companies or European projects and Networks of Excellence.
